A

Does Vitaball contain any common allergens?
Vitaball products do not contain yeast, wheat, gluten, nuts or dairy products.  If your child is sensitive to food dyes and artificial colors, we recommend you consult a healthcare professional before use.

Back to Questions
A

How is Vitaball sweetened?
Vitaball products are sweetened with a blend of high quality natural and artificial (sucralose) sweeteners to sufficiently mask the taste of vitamins that children may find bitter.  The main goal when developing Vitaball was to create a multi-vitamin that tastes so great, children would look forward to chewing it every day.

Back to Questions
A

How much sugar is in Vitaball?
Each daily serving of Vitaball contains four (4) grams (equivalent to less than one teaspoon) of sugar.  For a complete discussion on the role sugar plays in children’s diets read The Sweet Truth About Sugar, found in our Healthy Kids Resources section.

A

Why aren’t there any minerals in Vitaball?
Adding minerals to Vitaball makes the gumballs hard to chew and discolored, not to mention taste horrible!  To mask the poor taste we would need to add a lot more sugar and/or artificial sweetener, which we would prefer not to do.

What flavors does Vitaball come in?
Vitaball 36 and 100 count canisters contain a random assortment of Cherry, Bubble Gum, Grape and Watermelon flavors. Vitaball Minis comes in Bubble Gum flavor.

Answers to Questions About Vitaball Usage & Safety
A

At what age can I start giving my child Vitaball?
We do not recommend giving Vitaball to children under the age of five (5). The smaller-sized Vitaball Minis gumballs may pose a choking hazard for children under three (3) years of age. Please supervise your child’s use of Vitaball.

Back to Questions
A

How long should Vitaball be chewed?
Vitaball should be chewed daily for at least 5 (five) minutes to ensure the release of the vitamins. Many vitamins are best absorbed and utilized by the body when taken near a mealtime.

Back to Questions
A

Is it harmful if Vitaball is swallowed during chewing?
No. Gum, including Vitaball, is readily digested. The release of the vitamins is best from chewing, and it's possible that all the vitamins may not be released if the gum is swallowed before five minutes of chewing.

What if my child has more than one gumball serving per day?
We strongly advise adults to supervise children's daily intake to prevent over-consumption. In the event more than one daily serving of Vitaball is consumed, there is very little cause for concern. A child would have to consume many Vitaball gumballs every day for several months before any adverse effects would be expected to occur.

Vitaball contains both water soluble and fat soluble vitamins. Water soluble vitamins (vitamin C, and the B-vitamins, including thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, B-6, folic acid, B-12, biotin, and pantothenic acid) present no real issues of toxicity. Water-soluble vitamins are not stored in the body in any significant quantity or for any length of time. The body regulates its use of these vitamins and excretes any unneeded amounts though urination and perspiration. Fat soluble vitamins are stored in the body, however the amounts in Vitaball are well under the safe upper limits for daily intake, recognized by the FDA, USDA and the Council for Responsible Nutrition.

Will Vitaball stain my child’s teeth?
Vitaball is colored with the same food dyes found in regular gumballs, candies and other foods. Discoloration is unlikely, but any discoloration of the teeth should be temporary however you may want to advise your child to brush his or her teeth after chewing.

What can you tell me about the safety of the artificial sweetener, sucralose, used in Vitaball?
The International Food Information Council Foundation (IFIC Foundation) states that more than “100 scientific studies conducted over a 20-year period demonstrate that sucralose is safe for use as a sweetening ingredient. International experts in a variety of scientific disciplines, including pediatrics, toxicology, oncology, teratology, neurology, hematology and nutrition, independently evaluated the data from the studies. Importantly, comprehensive toxicology studies, designed to meet the highest scientific standards, have clearly demonstrated that sucralose is not carcinogenic.

Among the regulatory bodies that have evaluated the safety of sucralose are the U.S. FDA, the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA); the Health Protection Branch of Health and Welfare Canada; Food Standards Australia/New Zealand, the European Union’s Scientific Committee on Food, and a host of others in South America and Asia.”

Read more about sucralose on the IFIC Foundation’s website.
